Based on our Health and Fitness guru’s advice I decided to work on my hydration. Thinking to myself “it’s only eight glasses of water I need to drink each day. Right?” Right. I’m the guy who drinks 2 or 3 cups of coffee a day, that’s it. I will drink a coke with my Taco Bell on the way to the track. My method of hydration is drinking as much water as I can between motos.

Much to my disappointment this really doesn’t work. When I ride I am thirsty all the time. At the track I can never get enough to drink to quench my thirst. So what happens? I fill up on water and start with the stomach problems. This has been my M.O. for the past 20 or so years. It's time to make a change.

Putting away eight glasses of water a day is no easy task. Making matters worse is the fact that you have to keep count of the number of glasses/ bottles you have had. After several failed attempts to keep track. It was time to enlist some help in the form of a coach, a hydration coach.  Hydracoach Inc. makes a water bottle that does exactly what I needed. With its built-in digital monitor it keeps track of exactly how much water I consume and displays the percentage of my Daily Hydration Goal. Using the digital display you input your weight to determine your DHG. Start the timer and you are off... Now get drinking! My DHG, based on a weight of 175 lbs. is 89 oz. which means in an eight hour day I have to average just over 11 oz per hour. That is a ton of water!

To be honest, I just couldn’t bring myself to drink so much. Between all the drinking and trips to the bathroom I wasn’t getting any work done. Fortunately, the HydraCoach allows you to adjust your DHG to make your goal more manageable. I lowered mine to 64 oz. and was able to hit my mark without too much strain. My next trip to the track was a real eye opener. After just one week of this regimen I didn’t have the feeling I wanted to drain the water truck into my belly after pulling off the track. My endurance was up and I was able to think about other things besides how thirsty I was! The Hydration Coach may seem like a superfluous novelty to many of you. But, if it can teach good hydration habits, it is worth its weight in gold… I’m sold
