On July 21, 2008 The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) announced that the 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, and the 2009 AMA Motocross Championship will adopt the FIM 94dBA sound standard. Bikes will have to pass tech inspection with an exhaust level that is no higher than 94dBA, after race level can be +2 for a total of 96dBA. The new rules will not affect the 2009 AMA amateur classes. But you can bet it will be coming soon. One of the biggest gripes about motorcyclist from non-riders is the loud exhaust pipes the bikes are using. The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) first announced their goal to achieve a 94dBA sound level for motocross in February of 2006 and the standard was formally adopted in the 2007 FIM rulebook and implemented in 2008. “Immediately after each Race, three motorcycles, chosen at random, may be checked for compliance with noise regulations. Any rider whose motorcycle is controlled/verified – will be penalized by having one minute added to his riding time in the race in question.”
LeoVince (pronounced Vin-chee) has you covered, all of their exhaust systems have meet this standard while providing after market pipes with the HP gains racers are looking for. They achieve this with the EVO II, which is an insert in the end can that takes the dBA level down to around stock. The EVO II insert is easily removed and when removed is the same system and performance gains of a non EVO II system at a sound level of 98 – 100dBA.
We tested the X3 Full Titanium MX System with Carbon Fiber End Cap on a 2007 RMZ450 with a stock motor. For dirt bikes LeoVince recommend the stock jetting so we left the jetting as is for the Dyno run (see Dyno Chart LV vs. Stock). The LeoVince Pipe gave a power increase of 3 hp on the top of the power band, remained the same in the middle and gave up 2hp at the low end of the power. Our testers who ride in the top reaches of the power band were pleased with increase in power, those who ride in the low to mid range didn’t notice an appreciable loss of power and all really liked the look of the unit. The finish is fantastic and the Carbon Fiber end cap look super trick. If you crash and damage your stock unit or you just want to upgrade to an all Ti system, LeoVince is an excellent way to go.
